In the summer I try to grill... everything. Other things we've done not mentioned here is pizza. We make the dough single serving/smaller so it's easier to handled. Grill the dough for a bit, flip, top, and finish off.
I've always wanted to try grilling pizza but wasn't sure how to go about it without a pizza oven thing. So just throw the dough right on the grill for a bit?
We love grilling on nice summer nights but I’m getting sick of our staples. It’s either hot dogs/burgers, BBQ or flavored chicken, or we have two foil packets we make: a shrimp boil and a Mexican chicken thing.
I am open to other foil packets you like or something else entirely. I don’t like steak. Otherwise, I’m open to any kind of food.
But years ago, I did find someone on here who had a mutual friend with me. She doesn't post here anymore (at least that I've seen) but I did meet her IRL and we are still FB friends. She posted photos on here from a bridal shower and the mutual friend had posted the same photos on FB so I PMed her and we found out we lived near each other and both had this mutual friend.
We're going to a beer and wine fest at the winery today! We always go to this on Memorial Day weekend as a kind of "kick off" to summer but it was of course cancelled last year, so extra excited to go today. Of course, it's randomly cold here today. Hopefully it'll get to be at least 60 and it is sunny. But it's normally humid as hell for this event so this is weird.
We got a king size bed delivered yesterday and it's everything I hoped for!

The clothing industry still has a LONG way to go. Those of us who wear over size 24/26 rarely see models who are our size modeling clothing on stores' websites - definitely hardly EVER happens at a regular store and not often even at plus size stores. Many stores that say they carry plus size clothing stop at 2x or 3x and many of those times, those sizes really fit like an XL. It's better than it used to be but definitely not great yet.
I follow a lot of plus size outdoor Instagrammers. We just NOW got a plus size backpacking pack, one specifically designed for larger hips and waists. Just now in 2021. The first plus size backpack for outdoor gear. It is outrageous.
Yes for two years in college and one year after college. I didn’t mind it, but I think I watch too much true crime and read too many thriller novels that I creep myself out. If I lived alone again, I’d at least want a dog with me.
I’d be skeptical, too. Do you have any kind of relationship with the people who moved out? Is there a Facebook page for your neighborhood? I might start with either of those to get a sense of whether this is really a problem in your immediate area. (I’m not saying it’s not, and I know jack shit about termites, but I’d want to independently verify it’s a problem.) We have a lot of solicitors here (even though they’re not allowed), and it’s always, “oh, so and so family down the street is doing this pest control/lawn care/roofing project, and the deal is only good for right now, so you better sign up.” And funnily enough despite knowing many of my immediate neighbors and a ton of other people nearby, I never know “so and so.”
I run our neighborhood FB page because I’m on the HOA LOL. The house next door has been a series of renters and now the owner decided to sell and someone bought it so I’m sure they had an inspection done and that’s when they were found.
I do remember hearing when we moved in nine years ago that termites are active in this area. Also the guy we had out yesterday said we have no active termites. But that areas with older homes (we have wood siding) and lots of trees are where they are most active. We could do nothing as we don’t have them, but I was just curious if a preventative measure was wise or just regular inspections.
Are you sure the house next door is getting treated? The initial contact seems scammy to me. I’ve had workers come to the door to give me a “discount” on getting my driveway or roof work done etc saying my neighbors were having it done and it was never true.
The guy was driving a company truck that he parked in their driveway and we saw him go into the backyard next door and start doing the treatment.
Now, we didn't call him (even though he gave us his card). We called a totally different company.

Thanks for your experiences. I think we may have a local company come out and see what they think and compare prices. We have lived in this house 9 years and haven't had any inspections so far which probably wasn't good and we're probably lucky to not have them. I am also fine paying for yearly inspections. It sounds like the cost of preventative plans may just be what this is and that this is in line with other places.

TL;DR: If you live in an area with active termites (not at your house but nearby), how often do you get inspections and/or do you have a continuous preventative plan?
Last week, a man with a pest control company knocked on our door and said he was treating the house next door that had just sold as they had active termites and we are more at risk if active termites are nearby. So we had Terminix come out for a free inspection today. We do NOT have active termites; the guy said since the house next door is now getting treated, we are at an increased risk as the termites will now flee that house and go elsewhere. We also have wood siding and live in an older neighborhood with many mature trees.
He suggested a preventative treatment where they put these things in your yard and come out monthly to "feed" it. It costs almost $100 a month. Now, I do not want active termites, but this is very pricey and I'm wondering if this is truly necessary. Not a single person I know has termite prevention like this.
I was hoping I could just pay to have a pest company do a yearly inspection and if they do ever notice active ones, we would pay for treatment. But if that's not recommended, I'd consider the preventative.
What do you all do especially if you live in an area at higher risk for them?

I answered this earlier this week before going many places since the mask mandate here lifted. Now I’ve been to a handful of stores. A couple are still requiring masks no matter what. The others that lifted the requirement for vaxxed people- still 95% of folks in the store were masked so I put mine on as well.
We have 38% of people in our county fully vaxxed and I will probably start wearing mine less indoors when that number is 50 and over.
We did go to two street fairs and a baseball game yesterday (since my last post our bball stadium said no masks for vaxxed people) and I did not wear a mask to any of those scenarios. Hardly anyone else had one on either.
We’re going to the farmers’ market this morning and a baseball game tonight. This is the most I’ve done socially in one day since before the pandemic LOL. Feels good to be getting back to a bit of “normal.”

I had PF about three years ago and it took about 4-5 months for it to feel completely healed. I agree with Vionics. I also bought some PF insoles from Target that I put in my knee-high boots that I wear a lot in the winter and that helped immensely. I basically stopped going barefoot around the house and wore supportive flip flops instead (I liked a pair of Skechers).
What I also found helped me a lot was stretching and rolling the foot on a frozen water bottle. I'd put a sock on and for about 10-15 minutes, sit on the couch and roll it on the frozen bottle every night. You can Google for stretches that are good for PF.
I'm sorry. PF really sucks Mine was the worst in the morning or after I had been sitting for awhile. I know there are things you can wear while you sleep at night but I never tried those. What I DID do was lay in bed for about 2 minutes after my alarm every morning stretching, flexing, and rolling my feet before getting out of bed and that helped somewhat.

I feel you. I am also very anti-diet culture, and I don't do programs (not saying people are wrong to do them - it just doesn't fit with my mindset). I used to do one and it was not healthy for me, I became obsessive, and was way undereating. Anyhow.
For me personally, and it may not work for everyone, I don't focus on losing weight or dropping X number of pounds or getting to a certain weight. My focus is on improving my health, building endurance so I can go on longer hikes on our trips, and being able to live a long and active life. I refuse to do any exercise that I hate. And I find something about it I look forward to. For me, it's mainly walks or hikes. I LOVE being in nature. Sometimes I listen to a podcast I enjoy or my favorite music; sometimes, I just like to enjoy the peacefulness and sounds of nature. I'll take time to take deep breaths, lift my face to the sun, and just be IN the moment. Not everyone likes being outdoors, but this is just one example - find something you do enjoy. Maybe it's being with a friend so you two can start walking together and catching up.
In terms of food, I refuse to think of any food as "good" or "bad." It's just food. Different foods do different things to our bodies and make us feel better or worse, but no food is off-limits to me ever. My focus is more on just balancing my plate. I love carbs, especially pasta, so I don't eliminate pasta. But instead of just having pasta, I make sure to add protein to it, like chicken or fish. I also have a side salad with it full of lots of vegetables. Usually that other stuff fills me up to the point I don't need a second serving of pasta like I maybe would have gotten in the past.
I also drink a LOT of water and I think that helps me feel better as well and have more energy for being active.
My hair salon just posted that in accordance with CDC and our health department, masks are no longer required for guests or employees and they suggest non-vaccinated people wear one.
The last appointment I had five weeks ago, my stylist was not vaccinated. I don’t know that she was planning on getting it either. I think I will be wearing a mask at my visit next week especially if she is not. It’s just SUCH close contact for an extended period of time. I have a feeling I’ll be the only one masked.

Outside - no unless required (our baseball stadium requires them except when eating and drinking for instance)
Inside - depends on the situation. If it’s a crowded business or place, then yes. If the business requires it - of course. If they don’t and not many people are there, probably not. Honestly I’ll probably bring a mask with me everywhere and kind of follow the vibe. For instance I don’t plan on wearing one to the outdoors farmers market this weekend, but if one of the vendors is wearing one and I will be close to them, I’ll pop mine on out of courtesy. They have no idea that I’m vaccinated.

I just finished The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard and really liked it! If you enjoy thrillers/suspense, I would recommend it. It is fiction but in many places, reads like true crime.

We are taking a road trip to some national parks in Utah and Arizona for our ten year anniversary. It was supposed to be Canada, but I’m just excited we can go anywhere!
Locally we plan to go back to baseball games, concerts, farmers markets, drinks with friends etc.
Even pre-COVID, we rarely had people besides my parents over because of our reactive dog and also most of our close friends not living in our city.
We do have a coat closet by our front door, but when my parents visit, usually their coats just get thrown on the backs of dining room table chairs, which is just to the right when you enter our house. Shoes are kept on the mat by the front door.
Yes my name was the #1 girl name in the US the year I was born and I had several girls in my classes growing up who had my name. However it’s not as common for kids nowadays. I’m a teacher and in the 13 years I’ve taught high school, I think I’ve only had 4-5 students with my name total.
Our bed we ordered came in three months early so we went and bought a mattress today, sheets, and I ordered a comforter online. Very excited to get a king size bed finally but dreading all the in-between stuff like getting the two deliveries lined up on the same day, taking apart the old bed, etc. Ready for it to be here and put together.
At my school, TKAM is taught at 9th grade. I don't teach 9th anymore, but I know the freshman teachers don't teach it alone, but paired with current events articles regarding things happening today, as well as with other texts written by Black authors with Black protagonists. I think they actually don't teach the entire TKAM text anymore, but teach strategically-chosen excerpts along with all these other texts I mentioned.
In terms of Catcher, I do have to teach that at the junior level. I never read it until a few years ago when I had to teach it. It is definitely not a favorite book of mine, but my students tend to like it and relate to it, which makes it more enjoyable for me, and it does bring up good conversations about mental health. My students who have lost people close to them can really relate to Holden losing Allie and the grief he goes through.
