What helped me was rolling my foot on a frozen ice bottle of water nightly (wearing a sock). I also did exercises in bed every morning before getting up that helped since right out of bed was always the most painful. I spelled the alphabet with my foot before getting up.
And definitely my shoes made a big difference. Vionics work well for me.
We’re driving to CO today and then UT tomorrow. Last night driving in Iowa, we got caught in horrible storms with rain so bad you could not see anything with nowhere to safely pull off. So nerve wracking. Hoping for good weather on the roads today.
We’re you driving on 80? Storms can be brutal there, because there’s so little tree break to cut the wind. Glad you were safe.
Yea it was 80! Thank you. We were so happy to see our hotel.

We leave for vacation for our ten year anniversary on Wed and I am so excited to get Out of my city and state! I have so much to do before then though.
Then when we return I only have two weeks left of summer break and they are filled with medical appointments and getting our patio replaced so not exactly relaxing. Plus planning for school. I can’t do that yet bc we haven’t gotten the master schedule 😑 This summer has flown by!
It still feels ok today. Not painful so much as tight. I haven't taken any more Advil. I wonder if I sort of tweaked something in it? On Saturday (the day it started hurting), we went hiking and it started raining and I slipped on a wooden beam using that leg (didn't fall). I also bought new hiking shoes later that day which involved trying on and walking in several shoes and I wonder if some made me walk differently or something. Odd.

I took Advil this morning after posting here and have no pain currently. I would not classify the pain as severe but just definitely there.
We don’t have any orthopedic urgent cares here just regular walk in/minute clinics. I know some have X Rays because when I dropped something heavy on my toe a few years back, I went to one after work and got an X Ray. But I definitely don’t think anything is broken. After the Advil, my pain is gone; it just feels a bit tight.
Thank you for all the advice. Since it seems to be ok with Advil, I’ll probably rest it (no hikes at home the next couple days) and ice it and use Advil on the trip if it does flare up. If it is still bugging me when we return I’ll go in. We weren’t planning on any huge treks, just day hikes of 3-5 miles but definitely elevation gain. I do use trekking poles which help alleviate pressure on knees.
We're leaving for a national parks trip on Wed. that will involve a lot of hiking. I have no idea what I did but yesterday afternoon, my left knee started hurting. The place it hurts is like near the middle of the knee going down vertically. It hurts when I bend or clench it and when I walk. It also feels kind of tight when I'm walking and my leg is straightened out.
H doesn't think a walk-in clinic will be able to do anything about it and that I should just do Advil and ice it. I'm fine with that, but I also want to make sure I can hike on this trip. A PCP isn't an option; I am getting established with a new one and I can't get in until after my trip.
Do you think there's any benefit to going to an urgent care? It is not swollen. I can move it. It just hurts.
Do you think I should try to rest it and stay off it or use it? I can ice it as well.
I am honestly just mostly worried about being able to hike on this trip lol. Right now, I can walk; it does hurt a little. But my concern is, I don't want to start hiking the first few days, overdo it, and then I can't do anything the last part of the trip.

Illinois Department of Health came out with their policy that masking is recommended for teachers and students who aren't vaccinated. The state board of ed adopted that and said each district can decide for themselves. That if they want to drop mitigations, it should be one at a time and with frequent testing at school.
Well my school never did physical distancing even last year. The only mitigation we had was masks. And I highly doubt we will have frequent testing at school. I foresee just no masks being required, even though a very low percentage of people, especially students, are vaccinated. And I am concerned about a scenario like this outbreak at a youth camp in my state that happened because of unvaccinated people being in close quarters indoors without masks.

I got some new hiking shoes from a local outdoor store. They are Hokas and omg they’re the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. It’s like walking on clouds!
We then went for a hike and got caught in pouring rain but oh well 🤷🏻♀️
I'm loving the cooler weather we're having. We sat out on the patio last night after dinner and I actually had to put a hoodie on!
I have 5385 things to get finished before we leave for vacation on Wed. But all I feel like doing is sitting out on my patio and reading the book I just downloaded. I just want to be on the road. I hate all the things I have to do to get ready to leave for a trip.
I pretty much exclusively read suspense/thrillers. These are ones I've read in the last few weeks and they were all pretty good.
Finding Tessa by Jamie Lynn Hendricks They Never Learn by Layne Fargo I Don't Forgive You by Aggie Blum Thompson Beneath Devil's Bridge by Loreth Anne White
I just downloaded Kill All Your Darlings by David Bell and pre-ordered the new Megan Miranda book, Such a Quiet Place, which comes out on Tuesday, right before we leave for vacation, which is perfect!
Nope it's from my hometown. Same state, different city. I've had the same cell number since I was 16 and first got a phone and don't plan to change it. I feel like that would be a huge PITA.
Thanks everyone! So I went to the horseshoe bend site (it wasn’t an NPS one but looked official lol) and that’s where it mentioned the deep sand and steep hill. But after reading here, I also went to Trip Advisor and found a review that mentioned improvements made in 2019 which made it an easier walk. Perfect! This makes me more optimistic about doing it in high heat.
In a couple weeks, as part of a longer road trip, we're driving from Zion to the East Entrance of the Grand Canyon South Rim. This route takes us through Page, AZ where Horseshoe Bend is. I'm trying to decide if the detour to do it is "worth it."
We would probably be getting to it around late morning, so I'm sure it will be hot. I know the walk out to it is all sun. Online, I've read reviews that the walk is in deep sand and has a steep incline, yet I watched a few YouTube videos of people doing it and the sand looked pretty hard packed and the incline didn't look steep. I was wondering if anyone has done it and can comment on this?
It looks neat and I'd like to see it; I also know mid-day in July isn't ideal but it's when we'd be there. I'm sure we'd only spend about 5-10 min at the overlook. We'd want to get moving to the GC. I don't really mind a 1.5 mile walk in the hot sun if it's not too steep and the sand is hard packed, but walking up a steep hill in deep/soft sand under a boiling sun doesn't sound fun, and if that's how it is, I will probably skip it.
I don't share rooms (and definitely not beds) with anyone but H at this stage in my life. I'm an introvert, I like my own space, and I need to have time to unwind and decompress at the end of the day. I would rather pay more and have my own room or bedroom.
When I have gone to conferences for work before, they have tried to have me share a hotel room with a female co-worker to save the district money, and I always refuse and just offer to pay for my own hotel room so I can be by myself.
Sunny and warm all weekend here. We did a small, slow dog walk with Rox this morning who is still recovering and limited on exercise. Went out for breakfast for the first time in over a year, did a hike at a new place, and tonight we're doing a picnic at a scenic river overlook area.
Tomorrow my parents are coming to grill out for the Fourth.
I have had to attend mandatory in-person meetings (usually with little or no social distancing) since last August. I fought and fought and fought with admin about this (I'm a teacher), and they only went to Zoom meetings in Nov. for like a month when we had a horrible surge here. Now, mine didn't involve airplane travel.
Are they doing masks at least? I think many companies are moving back to in-person stuff. I would probably be OK with it; I would feel better if there was some distancing and masking (since likely you won't know who is vaccinated or not).
And I admit I may be more "OK" with this stuff just because I was forced back into "regular" settings so so early at a job that acted like there wasn't a pandemic. It wasn't right, but I just got used to it.
I worked at a mini-putt/arcade place. We also hosted kids' birthday parties. I did get it on my own - drove there and applied; the manager then "interviewed" me for about 2 minutes and offered me the job.
AND it's where H and I met! It was a really fun job for the few years I did it. And the managers would let us all stay and mini putt for free after hours.
I agree with certified letter, and if nothing happens, taking them to small claims court.
Unless you are happy with the riser situation, I would require them to do a whole new fence. They messed it up and now sound like they want to half ass a solution. No, I get the fence I ordered and paid for. Done correctly.

Rox has been limping more than usual lately, so we had her sedated to get X-Rays done today. The vet suspected just more arthritis that got aggravated, and that is what it is. When she had her bee sting on her right paw last week, she was putting so much pressure on her left leg and possibly came down on it too hard one time. Her left elbow has the worst arthritis, but she also has some on her right elbow, spine, and neck.
Our vet doesn't do cold laser therapy but another in town does, so I think we're going to give that a try. She is already on several pain meds. Ugh getting older sucks
Now she is just high for the next few hours because they gave her a really strong pain shot sine she couldn't have her meds this morning.

It sounds like she has a history of being flaky and that annoys me too.
I don't think the friend necessarily did anything shady in this situation. It sounds like she forgot to text you back for awhile - maybe this is the same flakiness she has exhibited before. I would have been more upset if she cancelled plans with me for that night and then went out with other friends instead.
Regardless, it sounds like you want the friendship to have run its course. I would just text about something coming up at work or wherever for the day you have lunch plans and then just not reschedule.

Wear what you want. If you like your black pants, keep wearing them. Fuck if I’m going to stop wearing something I like and that flatters me because a CW said it’s not trendy.
