Ditto what everyone else said about getting as much together the night before.
My alarm goes off at 4:30, I get up and shower and get dressed. By 5 I’m done in the bathroom and DH wakes up and gets dressed. I go down stairs and pack breakfast for the kids to eat at daycare, pack my lunch/snacks, and make my coffee. I put all the bags in my car then head back upstairs. At this point it’s around 5:30, I go and do my hair and make up and DH starts getting the kids up and dressed. Then we’ll go down stairs and get shoes on and I’ll do DDs hair and DH will make his coffee. We are all out the door by 6:15, and I drop the kids off at daycare, the Night dH picks them up.
I threw out my back this week due to picking them up as while they were kicking and screaming. They both manage to throw epic tantrum when we are trying to get ready and get out the door. This week it was DD wanting to pick her own clothes but after looking through them all wouldn’t pick anything. Then DS kept throwing tantrums when he wanted to ride in daddy’s new car to daycare but I do drop offs 🤦♀️
We just replaced the car seats (Nextfits) in DH's car with high back boosters (with harness) due to a car accident. I figured if I had to get new seats I would move on to the next step. My twins are 3.5 and about 35lbs, 38 inches so met the size requirements to be in the seat with the harness. We got the Graco Tranzitions for them as they had good reviews and were a great price - he said the install on them isn't the easiest, but the seats will hardly ever be moved in his car so ease of install wasn't too high on the list.
They are still in NextFits in my car and when the time comes to replace those I might look at the Britax clicktight seats for ease of installation.
Yup, i agree too. And I hate storing two of the same item where they never play with the second one (but you know the day you get rid of the second one, they'll remember they have two of that item and it will become a huge fight/tantrum/tears/etc. about where the second one went).
Agree with the other twin moms. Most people have gotten our twins gifts that are similar and not exactly the same and that has worked well.
We've got you beat on the amount of time the kids are in daycare, due to both of our commutes. Kids are dropped off at 6:30am and are there until 5-5:30pm. Thankfully they are able to stay up longer now that they are older. They go to bed at around 8pm.
My question - what hair products do you recommend for a toddler girl with curly hair? I have straight hair and have no idea how to manage my daughter's hair. I think I need some sort of leave in conditioner.
I brought my twins with me to my pp appointment! I left them in their car seats which were clipped into our frame stroller. I was able to wheel the stroller right into the exam room.
Aww, fun, I went to school up there and lived there for a while after graduating. We haven't been back since having kids but some of our favorites are:
- The Farmhouse - Leunigs (prob not great with kids though) - American Flatbread - Windjammer - Vermont Pub and Brewery - Penny Cluse (great for breakfast)
I am not aware of any side-by-side that does this. So, we used the Joovy twinroo for the first 6 months with the car seats then switched over to our City Mini double.
Does the twinroo take any car seat? I hate the seating arrangements on the twinroo LESS than I hate the stadium type seating with other doubles, so it's definitely an option (assuming it will take any 2 car seats).
We used it with 2 chicco keyfits so I know it works for those, I'm not sure about other car seats though.
I’m pretty sure the City Mini double does this. We had it for awhile, but not with car seats, and really liked it. It’s also popular so you can find used ones on Craigslist, that’s where we got ours for $200.
The Citi Mini double only allows 1 car seat.

Our center dumps it out if they can, although sometimes we've gotten some still in the underwear. Either way they wrap it up in a plastic bag for us to deal with later.
I have 3 year old twins, and I would be worried this may be too long of a birthday party and that the 3 year olds may not have enough of an attention span to sit through an almost 2 hours movie (including previews) plus an hour long party.
Most of the 3 year old bday parties we have been too have only been 1.5 - 2 hours long max. I haven't taken my twins to see a movie in a theater yet as I'm worried they wouldn't be able to sit through it.
We're going next weekend! I'm ordering the snowflake glow wands off Amazon. DD is going to wear her Elsa dress and I ordered a shirt off Ebay for DS. I'm planning to only buy a pretzel or popcorn for snacks when we get there.
We use the nest cam for the twins and I agree that it is more of a spying device. Our bedrooms are all close together so I can hear them anyway. If you paired it with a cheap audio monitor it could work well for you.
This morning I caught Kona busting in their room and looking around before realizing that they couldn’t get up and feed him lol
This. We have used a nest camera paired with a cheap audio monitor for our twins since they were born. Our nanny uses the audio from the nest cam app on a tablet to check on them during nap time. I use the audio monitor at night. I like being able to check in on them even if I'm not home.
Thanks guys, I think that's what I may end up doing. We're so close to being done with a baby monitor, so I can't really justify buying a new monitor, but I still need a camera in there to keep an eye on them.
My twins were in the same room at daycare up until Preschool. Starting at preschool they started having problems together. Any time DS would misbehave DD would start copying him, the teachers noticed they behaved better apart then together. They are currently in separate rooms - DD is still in preschool room and DS went to the class right before with a bit younger kids.
We're going to try to put them back in the same classroom next month and will see how it goes as DS's current classroom isn't doing the same level of lessons, projects, etc as DD's room is doing. If I had the option of 2 identical rooms with equal numbers of kids I would keep them separated, but unfortunately that's not an option at our center.
My twins are 3 years old and share a room. They're in beds now, so I feel like I still need a camera in there to keep an eye on them as they like to tear their room apart! As part of tearing their room apart they keep breaking our current Motorola monitor (I think we're on our 3rd one now).
I would like to replace their monitor with a wifi camera and was thinking of a Nest or Arlo camera. My only hesitation is with the notifications (or lack there of) I'll get from those. I like the sounds of the Arlo camera as it's wireless, does anyone use one as a baby monitor?
They sleep through the night 99% of the time so won't be many wake ups middle of the night, but I do want to be aware if there are any. I do want to be sure I'm alerted when they wake up early in the morning and to see what trouble they are getting into when I put them down for the night.
We recently joined our YMCA and it has been awesome. We have a family membership which includes 2 hrs of childcare while we work out. They have tons of classes for adults and kids as well as 3 pools. We’ve gone to the indoor splash pad and open swim which was fun.
Other things we do: - 1st Saturday of each month is a free kid project at Home Depot, we went this morning and made a bean bag toss! - we have a membership to the children’s museum so usually go once a month - we’ve got tickets for Disney on ice later this month and might go to paw patrol live as well.
My son has been referred to specialists (pulmonary, allergist and urology) and our pediatrician has always deferred to the specialist. That seems really unprofessional for her to object to what the specialists are telling you to do.
I wouldn't want to see her any more. Are there any other physicians in the practice you could work with? Or would it make sense to call/see a GI specialist?
Hope she feels better soon, glad you have a supportive boss.
Daycare sent out 2 emails this morning about illnesses and that a number of kids at our center have the flu. I'm just waiting to get a call that one of mine has it.
I also showered fairly soon after my c section. Surgery was Monday morning and I showered late afternoon on Tuesday. I just let the water and soap run over the incision and didn’t scrub. I made sure to keep in dry.
noodleoo, my DD will go about that long 2-2.5 hrs between peeing. My son goes like every hour though. They poop only once a day though. The book said that was normal for them to “consolidate poops” when potty training.
I haven’t had much luck getting them to go potty before going out. It’s typically a battle so I haven’t pushed it as they’re good about telling me when they have to go and I have the travel potty in the car.
noodleoo. What Oh Crap recommends is trying your first outing right after they go potty so you have a bit of time. I would wait for her to go on her own and then leave immediately for an errand. Then try the potty at wherever you go or the travel potty in the car. For accidents I really tried to emphasize that they needed to go in the potty and tried not to say “it’s ok.”
For daycare, our center was super supportive and told us to bring as many backup outfits as possible. They kept changing them until they ran out of spare clothes and only at that point did they put them in a pull up. But I’ll be honest we still have an accident or two a week (4 months in) - sometimes they just forget and other times another kid is already in the bathroom.
My philosophy is that accidents will happen, you just need to keep going and as long as they go in the potty more then have accidents I think you’re doing ok.
noodleoo glad to hear day 1 went well! I hear you on going stir crazy, I hated being cooped up inside.
My dD was similar to yours, didn’t want to go when we asked her to. She was also scared to use public potties (still is a bit) so we used the travel potty in the beginning. I would try a short trip out and see how it goes. My DD was a camel, she could hold it for a few hours no problem.
midwest07 , vtdiamond , so do you do underwear on Day 1 or no bottoms? I think when I read Oh Crap it said nothing on Days 1 and maybe 2, I forget. But then what if she poops on the floor! 😵 Curious as the book I’m reading now (thx pugz ) says to use underwear which surprised me.
i also just realized I probably need to buy a travel seat. We have the Baby Bjorn seat for home. Do I need a ring for the home toilet too? Any recs?
We followed the Oh Crap method so were bottom free for the first day and a half or so. We tried underwear the afternoon of the second day. I don't think we had a poop on the floor, they both had an easy enough sign of when they needed to go that it was easy to spot and get them on the potty.
We used the little potties while we were training, and then moved to the big potty after a week or so. On the big potties we have a baby bjorn ring for the downstairs one and then a seat with a built in ring for the upstairs one. In the car I have the OXO travel potty that can be used as either a little potty or as a ring on a big potty.
