Wow, big decisions. I would choose Atlanta of the two. But I might be a bit biased. Definitely live near Alpharetta. And make sure you GTG with @choco.
I've been in my new position for 3 weeks now. It's going well. Everyone here seems really nice, and it's a laid back environment. I've finally gotten the main software that I'll need for my job, so now I get to dive into actual work. The biggest irritation is that I am in a cubicle right now (that's not the bad part) and the people around me are incredibly loud. They work in a different group and they tend to have loud discussions out in the hallway. Yesterday, I had to listen to a conference call that a woman near me was on. She has an office but had her door open the entire time. And she wasn't very nice to the person on the other end. My boss is working on getting me out of the cube and into an office.
Yay for Friday! It's my last day in my current job and I actually have some work to do. A big report that I wrote came back with comments that I need to address (shouldn't take long to do that). But a coworker sent me a manuscript to review today. And when I told her that I might not get to it since I have a lot of other thing to wrap up today, she said that next week was okay too. She knows I am moving next week. Um, thanks.
Someone needs to make a sampler pack so I don't buy and waste.
Try the Trader Joes three layer hummus then - it has roasted red pepper, original, and cilantro hummus (Red/yellowish/green) like a layered dip. It's so good!
My tummy hurts reading these... but I'm pretty sure that it's the fact that I went to my boss's house for "lunch" today. He and his husband are baking for the fair and had leftovers, so coworkers and I went over and left with plates of sweet treats... and that's all I had for lunch.
tacosforlife, I will be having some totino's for dinner tonight thanks to this thread.
I love the SHIT out of Totino's pizza rolls. Are they good? No. Do I love them? YAAAAASSSS. We all have guilty pleasures.
Stovetop stuffing is marginally offensive. I mean, it's just dried, seasoned bread that you add liquid to. I don't get it. Why not just use your own bread and seasoning? It's the just-add-water pancake mix of stuffing - it gets the job done, but it's so much better if you make it from scratch.
It's nostalgic for me. It's what my mom made with Thanksgiving dinner. When I can I try to make homemade stuffing, but sometime I just want what my mom made (and still makes).
I love the pizza rolls. Bad. They are definitely a weakness of mine.
This. And thanks for this post... now I am thinking of all of the crap I'll eat next week when I have to drive 12+ hours with the dog and 2 cats in the car with me.
Hmm Xanax sounds like a great snack for everyone in your car. lol
I just came back from the vet with kitty tranquilizers. So I think we're set. The dog loves riding in the car and he'll be great.

Well... Friday is my last day physically in this job. I am taking next week off to move. I'll be packing up the van with my things, some of H's winter clothes, our dog, and our 2 cats and making the drive to Maryland. I start my new job on the 19th. It's a huge change professionally, but I am really excited about it. The group I am going to is still growing, so there is room for advancement.
I am really sad to leave my current job and coworkers. My current boss is the best that I have ever had. I am going over to his house tomorrow, and I know that I am going to cry when I have to say goodbye.
And I am also going to miss our Atlanta friends, including our very own @choco. But I know that H and I will be back down here to visit.
0-1 Maryland 1-4 Germany (parents got jobs there with the DoD) 5-22 Maryland 22-26 New Orleans (grad school) 26-27 Atlanta (fellowship) 27-31 Maryland (got real job) 31-present Atlanta (got job transfer) as of next Tuesday... Maryland again (job transfer)
I am leaving my job on Friday. I wanted to pass along my saved emails to the woman who is taking over my position so that she has the history of projects at her fingertips. We had to give her permission to see those folders in my inbox. Then they needed to add something on their end, and a folder popped up in their outlook inbox. They were able to copy and paste those emails into their own inbox.
Had my going away lunch today. And my boss's husband made me a peanut butter pie. It's been nice knowing all of you... I am about to go into a diabetic coma. But it was worth it.
I'm grumpy today. NBCNews has a headline, "Dad Pulls Stepfather from Seat to Walk Daughter Down Aisle," and is all, "see this touching and emotional moment..." All I can think is, maybe it's the BRIDE'S fucking decision who walks her down the aisle at her own wedding? Jeez.
I thought the exact same thing and then I read the story. The bride wanted them both to walk her down the aisle, but there had been a lot of drama between the parents and so she decided against it. Her dad decided to finally be an adult and have them both walk her down the aisle. He discussed with the bride but didn't tell the stepfather. So this was all a surprise to him on the wedding day. This would have never been a story had the parents acted like adults and not put their daughter into this situation when planning her wedding.
GO! Skin cancer is so treatable when it's caught early. It's probably nothing, but please go.
Can I just ask my primary care doctor at my physical in 2 weeks?
I have a hdhp.
I don't want to scare you, but go see a derm. They specialize in this. My dad asked his PCP about a spot on his arm, and the PCP said it looked fine. Dad didn't feel 100% with that, so he made an appt with the derm. She said that she would remove it and biopsy it if he wanted. He did. That mole was melanoma. A large chunk was removed from his arm. I hate to think of what would have happened if he had listened to his PCP.
Sending you all of my job dust... because my background check cleared and I got the final offer for my job this morning. So I no longer need my job dust...
