Thanks RockNVoll. I am not the biggest DR fan either, but it's what I have at home right now. I will also pass along Mint to him to track his finances. He isn't much of a reader, so I think we'll be lucky if he even finishes one book.
My BIL is awful with money. He and my SIL recently got divorced, and he is struggling even more now that he has to pay child support. The Missing Money post earlier had me searching for money for us, but I also found that he has some. I messaged him about it, and he said he was going to use it to catch up on bills. I told him that H and I have some good resources for money management that we could give him, and he has accepted. I've got a copy of Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover that I can send him, but I'd like to pass along other resources to him to help him set a budget, snowball his debt, etc.
What should I send him? (It can be via the post office or via email.) Thanks!
I got an email about arranging my travel for the interview. It's in my home state, and my mom would like for me to stay with her. I'm fine with that. But when I emailed the point of contact about it, I got an out of office from her. I am going to make the arrangements for the flight and hotel and change them later if needed.
Good luck! And I'm sure that's fine. Govt hotel reservations have great cancelation policies (usually same day by 6pm)
Yup. I decided not to book at hotel and to just stay with my mom. It'll be nice to see her for a bit while I am up there. I called Omega this morning before my boss got in) and booked the flight. I had to book the last flight back because I don't know what my interview day will look like.
My H has had this done several times. It's a quick procedure. I drive him there for it. Sometimes he can go to work afterwards but other times he stays home that day.
There have been times that have worked beautifully and the pain goes away. But other times, it only reduces it a little.

Not MM at all. While we didn't actually spend too much, we made plans to spend a lot. Including $1400 to remove the mice and bats in our attic (:::shudder:, $385 for pressure washing our house, $750 on new tires for H's car, and around $900 for new carpet in our den.
THE WOMAN WHO REAR ENDED ME LAST WEEK WAS DRIVING HER SISTER'S CAR. STARTED THE CLAIM PROCESS AND THERE IS AN EXCLUSION ON HER POLICY, SO THEY ARE DENYING THE CLAIM. SO NOW I HAVE TO GO THROUGH MY INSURANCE AND POSSIBLY GET A LAWYER.
AND STUPID ONGOING ISSUE WITH MY PHONE. I RANDOMLY STOPS MAKING OR RECEIVING CALLS. ON THE PHONE NOW (FROM WORK) FOR THE 4TH TIME WITH VERI.ZON. THIS TIME, THEY HAD BETTER GIVE ME A NEW FREAKING PHONE. I AM DONE WITH THIS.
I'll join this officially. We are hoping to move back to MD from GA. My H has a great opportunity there that we just cannot pass up.
I just got word today about an interview. They will fly me up there, and I'll need to present to the group on some analytic work that I have done. I have a presentation already put together that describes an interesting problem for a project I worked on in 2009. It's interesting and analytical. But not recent. Most of my recent work hasn't been that interesting analytically. Should I use this presentation on the older but interesting topic or pick something new? FWIW, the position I am interviewing for is not analytic in nature. It's more administrative.
I'm behind in this thread, but oh wow! Congratulations to Mr. Womet, but I'll be sad to see you go. Good luck on your interview!
Thanks! I have only told a few here until this thread. We met with the realtors last night and the house will be listed on the 21st. I just hope I find something soon so that my time apart from H is short. Sad to leave but looking forward to being closer to family.
Someone stole 2 chairs from my coworkers office. They were $500 each. My poor coworker had to sit in a crappy chair all day today. Hopefully someone will return them.
womet - I'd probably use the 2009 if it's one of the better representations of your work. I know most folks will say 6 years ago is forever, but in the fed world, old stuff still counts. Weird that they want analytic stuff for a administrative job (and I assume you mean policy admin, not admin admin)

On Friday, we discovered a leak in our HVAC. We had to turn the A/C off until we had someone out to fix it. Thankfully it was just a blocked pipe. So it was relatively MM to fix ($213).
We spent Saturday evening with my dad, stepmom and sister while they are down here to see my stepmom's mother. It was fun hanging out with them.
Realized 5 minutes from work that I forgot my lunch. And then when I got into work, there was no A/C. So I have been sitting in my hot office. The air is finally back on but it's still warm.
When I thought the day was going to be bad, I got a call about a job that I applied for. They want to schedule an interview!! Oh, and it has promotion potential. Woohoo!
Thanks! We tried it. But our drain pipe wraps around half of our basement, so it just wasn't something we could fix on our own.
The key question - are you cool now?
At home? Yes. Thank goodness.
But I got to work this morning, and the A/C is broken! It's hotter inside than outside. I am leaving at 9 to go work from home if it doesn't get any cooler.
I need a drink. Discovered our HVAC unit has been leaking. All over the basement. Our floor has a slight slope due to settling and the water was 1" at the deepest. So the air is turned off right now and we have someone coming out tomorrow. I think I am going to melt before then.
Before you pay your first born to the AC guy, look for the drain line and see if you can clean it. Maybe an air compressor or a small drain snake? It's usually 1/2" PVC and can clog. Then it backs up and leaks everywhere, but it's an easy fix that might have you sleeping in the cool tonight.
Eta: DOH! Reading fail. I saw the bump and this at the end, and didn't realize it was Friday night (never mind the title *blush*)

We have a pet sitter. He had great references and has been in business forever.
Current rates are $20 for a 30 minute visit. We do 2 visits per day (wet food). Cats love him more than they love us lol
We have a pet sitter from a company who comes to our house daily while we are on vacation. We feed our cats dry food. I think the visit is 30 minutes and costs ~$25. The lady who we use is the epitome of the crazy cat lady. But I never worry when we are away.

Today is the last day for the contractor in our office who has been essentially useless. She's a nice person but is lazy. I'm not sad she's leaving. We're taking her out to lunch and my boss made a cake. Yay for cake!
I was rear-ended yesterday. I called the police to get a report on file. And since the woman who hit me didn't have a drivers license, she got arrested. I'm fine. Was a little stiff last night, but feel okay this morning. So looks like my 9 year old SUV will be getting a new bumper. I just hope dealing with the owner's insurance company isn't a total pain.
We had some extra money to spend left over from a project at work. So we all got some new stuff for our offices. Nothing super exciting. Some color printers, external DVD drives, scanner.
I am sorry Chuppa. I hope you get good news from the biopsy and that this is the last surgery for you.
I had dilaudid when I was in the hospital 2 years ago. OMG, that stuff was so great. It made me feel warm all over, like I was wrapped in a warm blanket, and then I'd pass out. It was glorious.
