You are technically responsible for paying it. Stores that have a physical presence in that area are required to collect it and submit it to the government (thus fulfilling your to pay it). Stores that do not have a physical presence are not necessarily required, but some sites, like Amazon, are collecting it due to increased pressure. Income tax and sales tax are two different things. Above is sales tax only.

My furniture and the rest of my stuff came yesterday!!! OMG, how do I have so much CRAP!!!!!
And a self high five for dealing with 4 movers, 2 painters (who managed to be directly in the way at all times), 2 four year olds, 1 sick mom, 1 wildly obnoxious and controlling dad, and 1 out of town husband.
And today my new rug came! It covers up the insanely ugly floor, well most of it at least.
The navy and floral one is NMS. Personally, I'd prefer brighter, lighter colors in the pink room.
Agree that the boy ones are more grown up, but if he likes them then go for it.
Girlie is being accomadating so send some more options. I don't love the price of the navy and floral one and it's just the cover so I would have to buy the duvet too.
The boy hasn't seen any of the options. I'm afraid he will get stuck on something I don't like and I won't be able to get him unstuck. I did remember that I have a grey cabinet for his room coming today so something to match with too.

Sorry, I'm not much use here. I know that a lot of places don't take really young kids so definitely start looking early if you want to start back at work at 8 weeks. Check out child minder sites, I think one is childminder.co.uk or something like that. I was in London so most people had nannies.

RockNVoll, I'll get pics when I get out of bed. I'm currently starfishing on my OWN COMFORTABLE mattress. The girl's room is the one with the built in bed and it is PINK!!!!
They have a lot of cute, neutral geometric bedding, too.
Oooh, didn't check there. I have forgotten all the good US websites and stores. LOVE the solar system and dachshund bedding, though not sure the girl will go for it. She is SUPER girly.

So, looking to decorate my kids rooms. Girl's room is pale pink (Sherwin Williams- Charming Pink, to be exact) and the boy's room is pale blue (also, Sherwin Williams- Blissful Blue). Both beds are cherry wood, trim is white, carpet is light grey. I like Pottery Barn Kids and The Company Store, but am not finding anything that is striking me and I'm trying to keep the budget low. I would prefer something patterned, but not really babyish (they are nearly 5). The boy's bedding could be a quilt. He runs hot and has to have all bedding covering all of him at all times, no matter how much he sweats.
And, GO! Thanks for the help! I suck at coordinating a room!

I swear I'm close to a nervous breakdown. The house is more and more of a money pit. I can't get the kids registered for schools or sports or get my driver's license without two forms of residency proof (which I don't have yet), the doctor in London didn't give me vaccination records so I can't get them into a doctor for school physicals, my parents are more work than help, its like having 4 kids instead of 2, my husband was no use this weekend and I swear has become a complete moron in the past two years (he could not figure out how he would get proof of ssn for the DMV), and he is also now out of town. The painters have taken over the entire house and the kids are going even more nuts because they can't go inside. The realtor who said she would be full service and help get settled is MIA and actively avoiding an email.
I just want to drink and I don't even have a drinking buddy or know where to go!

I'm at my wit's end. The house is a money pit at this point.....paint, painters (who are taking their good ol time), new carpet, riding lawn mower and about a hundred other odds and ends from Lowes, new lights, a new car. And we still haven't done the inspection work because oh yeah, the contractor's wife was in the hospital and our realtor SUCKS. And we need the duct work cleaned, the THREE HVAC systems cleaned and maintained (one is leaking), and oh yeah, I still need a car. We have been living in hotels for two weeks now with two four year olds. And to top it off, I have poison ivy on my hands, neck, and face.
Edit- Oh yeah, and trying to decide between preschool and kindergarten for my kids. Preschool is AT LEAST 10k per kid....minimum.

I'm rather sad to say the bathroom did not come with the statue. In other news, we have spent SOOOO much money in the past week. We started throwing money at things after a hellish ordeal with the mortgage company (and our realtor not being helpful at all) put us way back in our plans.

Another vote for using AutoTrader or something like that. Carmax tried to absolutely low ball me on a very sought after car. Even the dealer was going to give me more money. I ended up selling in on AutoTrader for more than either offer.
I'm back in the US and currently homeless......well, not completely, but a hotel room with two kids isn't fun.
I'm sorry. That doesn't sound fun. How long will you guys be there?
We don't know. Our mortgage company is fucking with us so we can't close on the house yet. But our stuff doesn't arrive for a couple weeks anyway.
And my brilliant husband thought it would be sooooo easy to get corporate housing/furnished apartment, but yet there is nothing in the area until August. Comedy of errors.
Can someone just tranquilize me for the next month or so? The packers come Saturday and I'm so not ready. The kids were sick with strep (and on my birthday), we fly in a week and close on our house in 9 days. Then repairs, paint, new carpet, buy two cars, unpack two shipments and decide about the kids' school.
I am so in denial about how close your leave date is; "we fly in a week" just hit me like a ton of bricks

Oh goodness. I was wondering whether you had moved already. I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible. I'd send you some valium if I could.

hamster , FYI on the Hemnes line. They look white, but aren't actually a true white. If you want matching nightstands, just pick up the Hemnes nightstands while you are there!
I was going to come in here and be all like, "but I don't like the Hemnes nighstands!" But I went to IKEA first and saw they have a "two drawer chest" which is really the same thing and I totally like that.
Ha. I didn't say the door one was great, just that it was matching. It would drive me nuts to have a true white nightstand and the yellowy dresser. The two drawer one is much more functional than the door version. We have both. Why would you have a nightstand with a door???!!
