I think most colleges were still open on April 1st for the census date. Obviously it will effect some, but it isn’t any issue for students going home now.
The biggest university in my city was definitely closed before April 1 (about 2 weeks before). I will be interested to see what the Census shows this year, since the student population is something like 20% of the total for the city.
Most universities went home by April 1 or simply didn’t come back after spring break. It’s my understanding that colleges supply the census bureau with data on resident students though, and they did that back in the spring.
I'm excited to watch this though I think we're going to wait until closer to the last episode air date so we can pretty much binge the season. I've gotten used to doing that with most series and it's a hard habit to break. Ha.
I hate how HBO and Starz follow this model. It feels like they are still putting out CDs or something lol.
That’s because they still air them weekly on tv! I actually have HBO through my cable #getoffmylawn
If you were in school, your school probably filled it out on your behalf.
This is the first time it’s being done online so that’s another reason they are pushing it hard too.
I was in college for the 2000 Census and I remember a Census worker at my dorm pushing super hard to say that the only correct response was to give my residence at my university since I lived there more than 50% of the year. I still think that's wrong since I was officially a resident of a different state, voting and paying taxes there and not where my university was located.
The census worker was correct, college students are supposed to be counted at college.
If they undercount, doesn't that mean they get fewer seats in the House and fewer electoral votes for president?
Yes! They are heavily promoting the census in my state bc there is a fear we will lose a congressional seat and then it will be a crazy fight for the remaining seat.

I’m in the process of stepping back from managing two teams to just one team. I currently manage 15 and we are breaking it out into two teams and I’ll keep 5. Like you I’m burnt out and exhausted. I’ve been working 60-80 hour weeks for 2 years and I’m tired.
Chiming in on 1st gen students, the big thing seems to be Student Success for 1st Gen students and students in general now. I just met with someone last week who said he got lost in college and wished someone had done more to keep him on the right path as a student. And often, it's just that no one is guiding those students - even if they seem to be model students.
It'll be interesting to watch this over the years as it becomes more fleshed out within academic circles.
I also think that it's possible (probable?) that the individualized attention and environment at a smaller private liberal arts college can be helpful in supporting 1st Gen students. I am 1st Gen and while there were TONS of things that sucked about going to an "elite" private school as a poor 1st gen student, I got so much support from professors and staff that I likely would not have received (or would have needed to be proactive about asking for) at a larger school. I had no idea really the difference between a small liberal arts college and a big university when I chose it, but I'm so thankful every day that I did because I was so far behind peers coming out of a not so great public high school and I was given the time and tools I needed to catch up quickly. It makes me happy to hear that this might be improving across the board because it truly is miserable.
At the major university where I work, there is a first gen center that has robust mentoring and helps to provide the support needed. It’s a really great center!!

I had an employee quit yesterday. She has off 12/23 - 1/1 already arranged. Her last day is 1/3. Do this means she only had today, tomorrow (half of which is s party), Friday and then the 2ns and 3rd. So it’s like five days notice. It is what it is.

Please talk to the development folks - they want to help! Where I work it’s a minimum gift of $250,000 to do an endowed scholarship but every school is different.
I think Williams or Amherst are more elite than the “public ivies” listed. And probably offer better financial aid.
I loved my elite liberal arts education. I think it was worth every penny. I think some of the lesser institutions may close - but it’s hard to imagine the elite closing. Some of them have more in endowment dollars per student than some ivies.
I was on a flight with Lincoln Chaffee to DCA last week. Everyone ignored him and he got stuck in s middle seat on Southwest. Lol.
The most amazing part of this to me is that your plane successfully left TF for DCA. After the first 5 flights I booked to DC out of that airport got canceled andvoikdnt be rescheduled same-day I’ve just started flying out of Boston.
I fly to DCA regularly on southwest. They have two flights a day! It’s only been cancelled on me once. I go about 3-4 times a year on this flight.

I read it last week. I read the whole thing snd I’m confused as I didn’t see anything about an offred’s tale? Was the symposium stuff the end? On my kindle version there was the statue/symposium stuff st the end and then a thank you page. That thank you Page was the last page (421).
It was clearly tied to the series. I’m not sure how I feel about that - but I know Margaret Atwood has been working with them on the series. If anything it gives some clues as to what will happen in the show.
I think it was interesting to see Lydia’s backstory. I don’t think it makes her less evil but it helps make you understand why she did what she did. It’s like how normal people could become Nazis. That doesn’t excuse their horrendous and egregious actions - and they are still culpable and evil - it shows the evolution of it.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Bell in Hand but I would never think of eating there. It was always a drinking and dancing place for me.
By Fenway, you could do dinner at Island Creek Oyster Bar. Or any of Tiffani Faison’s restaurants. There’s also a new Time Out Market nearby that would be fun to wander.
I used to go to the bell in hand to get super drunk and dance in my 20s. I would not suggest eating there.
It misses another incentive to accept subpar rich kids: Rich, connected kids are more likely to be given summer internships with daddy's friend and jobs in the family business after they graduate - regardless of their actual college performance. So they end up looking like college success stories and are good on those post graduation stats for reasons that have nothing to do with their actual education.
H and I will be driving from Maine to Florida the week between Christmas and New Years. My grandparents snowbird in Florida and they'll be flying down after Christmas, so we offered to drive their car down for them. They'll fly us back home afterward.
Is there anything fun that H and I should stop and see/do along the way? We've driven from New England to the DC area before, but have never driven south of there. Neither of us has ever been to the Carolinas, and we've been to Georgia but only to Atlanta.
This may be too off your path, but the holiday displays at Longwood Gardens in PA (Philadelphia area) are amazing. The greenhouse is beautiful during the day, but the lights at night are really special.
They do these gorgeous Christmas decorations at the Breakers in Newport RI. It’s not really on the way as the fastest/most direct way cuts out RI entirely. I did that drive once and it’s LONG. I went from Maine to Miami.
Listen people, New Haven style pizza is the best. I personally like Pepe's rather than Sally's, but the Pepe's owner just came out as a Trumper so now I guess I need to eat at Modern or Bar. I'm totally a pizza snob.
I’m obsessed with Pepe’s and this is so disheartening to hear the owner is a Trumper.

Re NY pizza, I think there is great pizza by the slice at Pizza Supreme on the corner of 8th ave and it’s either 30 or 31. It’s across the street from Penn station on the southwest corner of 8th ave.
I also had this delicious pizza - Roberta’s - in this food hall on Lexington in the old GE building. I believe Roberta’s may be from an outer borough - I had this pie with hot honey and it was amazing.
