The other spouses aren’t usually giving up their citizenship and religion.
Up until the 20s they usually did. Queen Mum was one of the first to not have to since Anne Boleyn, Queen Mary being another. Most of the wives were foreign born and as such had to move and join the CoE. Most recently Philip had to renounce his citizenship and became British, including renouncing his titles.
It didn’t happen lately because they married British but Meghan is hardly the first royal spouse to have to do it.
AND he wasn't allowed to give his kids a last name. Unfortunately, most of the people having to give this up are women but it is not a gender specific issue.
The Daily Fail says she only brought one of her dogs to London with her. The other is now living with friends. That's way worse than giving up citizenship!
She said that in the interview. I wonder if she had a banned breed. The UK has some very strict laws when it comes to dogs, including stringent breed bans.
Though I did side eye her when that was brought up.
I think that's the kid that ran for school board. Smart guy and I think he has a very bright future.
Yeah! At 18!
Pretty much the only reason he lost. He was favored by most people in that district, but the main concern was that he was just starting college and voters were worried he hadn't learned quite yet how to prioritize in the adult world. Many said they wanted to see him get his education first and they'd definitely vote for him in 4 years.

My close friend lives across the street from that district and has been dying from the terrible crap that spews out of coworkers and neighbors alike, but said it has really started to change in the past 3-4 months. I hope the momentum continues!
I have to comment on the whole paternity and maternity thing.
The mothers get paid maternity up to 4 months. They absolutely utilize it as it one of the major perks of working for this company. It's highly encouraged that the fathers take their paternity leave as well which is also fully paid. I have never seen it looked bad upon and actually is one of the reasons I love the company I work for.
Also taken PTO is also helpful for the project. They encourage that you take it and it's sometimes gently requested that you do. This lowers the billing for the client but also keeps employees happy. I see people that take months off at a time.
I have to say that that I have never had better benefits in my life. They SN benefits for my daughter is the best I have ever seen.
OP send me a PM if you want the info on my employer. I do think they have a external job board.
I wonder if we work for the same company. I just got "gently pushed" to take PTO all next week and DH was told to WFH next week too. I know we are trying to limit burnout because attrition costs in consulting are pretty high.
My husband has not worked for Deloitte, but his friends have worked there and he/they work at similar companies that offer paternity leave. When it came time to taking it, they all said they would never take it because it would show you are not committed. Or if you did take it, you'd silently get passed over for promotions, bonuses, etc. I was like "but it's in your contract!" but they all said the same thing. Maybe it's not like this everywhere and these guys are all just nuts, but I'd do some digging first. Actually, now that I think about it, his cousin is higher up at E&Y, still travels a ton in his mid 40s, and has had 2 young kids in the last 4 years with a SAH wife. He definitely did not take 4 month paternity leaves with either kid.
I see the opposite at my firm, but we have a ton of female leadership. It's pretty much expected that you'll take it in some form, even if you're answering emails working from home or whatever. From what I know, EY has a very different culture than Deloitte.

DH and I both work at a consulting firm like Deloitte. I WFH and he travels M-Th. We don't have kids, but I actually like it more than I thought I would. I miss him a ton during the week but I try to get all the little chores done during the week (laundry, cleaning) and it gives us more time together on the weekends to just enjoy our little family with the dogs. On the weekdays, I get to watch whatever TV I want, eat what I want, and don't worry about keeping him up late (I'm a night owl, he's not).

I use Udemy as a free pre-screen for our tech training program and our company uses Udacity for the actual course. Most of our candidates finish Java training in a month because they are motivated to work for us, but the company says it takes about 60-90 days for the full micro-degree/cert.

The charter bus driver that does a route for a group I work with.
Not kidding. We didn't know how rich he was until one night while we were cleaning up the bus after a run. He started talking to DH about the military, then his flying career in the Navy, and oh! He's on the board of the small airport that all the wealthy people in Denver fly out from. He lives in the gated neighborhood where many of the Broncos live, has his own private jet he rents out. Just absolutely unbelievable from who we thought he was.
He drives a bus because he was bored playing golf all the time. His wife was in wealth management and the breadwinner until she retired last year. Wonderful guy that cares about every passenger and remembers their life stories

It was really hot out one day, so my grandpa, dad, and uncle grabbed some plastic paint tarps, covered the bed of my grandpa's truck and filled it with water. Put all the grandkids in the back and drove it around our neighborhood.
My parents left my brother to watch us from a very young age. They both went back to school when I was in 1st or 2nd grade, so two days a week, my brother watched us while they were in school. He was probably 11 or 12.
Thanks - this is interesting. I have definitely been nervous about other research I have seen that suggests mandatory training just further entrenches people in their viewpoints, so it's good to know one company made it work.
From what I remember, they implemented more than just mandatory training. There were goals and rewards for promoting diversity and actual consequences for middle managers that did not get with the program. I think this is a version of the article I read before: www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-04-27/white-men-can-change-at-rockwell-automation
ETA: I remember the article I read being several pages long, so that isn't exactly it, but it includes some of the examples mentioned in the longer article I remember.
Thanks for the link. I definitely want to look deeper into this!
I remember reading an article a while ago about a company called Rockwell Automation, who flipped the whole diversity concept on it's head by providing individual diversity training to their middle management, most of whom at the time were white men. They targeted educating the white men about their own privilege, and actively worked to reward the guys that got it, and penalize/fire the guys that couldn't get on board. The company still had diversity initiatives and mentoring programs, but by far, educating the white male managers was their most successful way to increase diversity, and increase job satisfaction among minority employees.
It was an interesting read. I'm in a related field to the company, and my field is 95+% male, so I've had to deal with a bunch of stupid crap over the years. I still occasionally am given coffee orders by folks visiting the office... My office used to be very good about supporting me when dealing with this sort of crap, but that support has declined with some management changes lately. I am looking around for work at this point, because at some point it will become untenable.
This is really interesting- I'm definitely going to look into it.
My company has a number of D&I programs, sessions for various groups (women, African American, Latino, working parents, remote workers, etc.). I have been to events for several groups and there are almost zero people outside of the group represented. I'm conflicted. On one hand, I think more men should participate in the Women in Leadership networking group, so they can get our perspective and understand it. (Plus the content isn't only for women, so they would learn the same thing if they are interested in the topic.) But another part of me thinks it's not my place to attend an event for AAs, because they need a space to discuss relevant topics without me there. But it's tough to try and increase our diversity and inclusion efforts when these group events seem to isolate the groups more and the issues aren't being shared broadly across the organization. (Which is near impossible given our size and number of offices.)
I'm just rambling because I don't know how I feel about these - and also check myself that I may not be qualified to have a viewpoint on any of these.
We have several DI groups like you describe and we have quite a bit of crossover, at least in the groups I participate in. The ERGs also work together to put on events or invite other ERGs to their events. Like, the women's group invited the Af Am Hispanic Am group to a talk that they put on. There are non-black and non-Hispanic people in our club, there are non-Asian people in the Asian resource group. All of the groups also do a lot of community outreach, so we're always willing to bring in anyone willing and able to do some work.
Our ERGs always partner because it does give each group more of a voice to teach and listen. I've noticed the best event partners are ones that may not have similar experiences- like Military ERG and Women ERG (yes, there are females like me in the mil ERG, but there is little crossover in our company right now). Or the LGBTA group will invite all the minority ERGs to leadership lunch and learns to talk about diversity issues and our middle/upper management will listen to our concerns as we come together.
I work in diversity recruiting, so I see so much of this in my day to day.
You could look at the Westin St. Francis. It’s right on Union Square and has amazing views. Maybe not the newest property, but historic. JP Morgan does a big conference there each year.
ETA: It’s probably a good 20 minute walk from Mission and 2nd so that could be a downside.
I looked at it and it's not too bad of a walk, but I have candidates carrying luggage and walking in suits It looks awesome though!

Haven't been around a ton due to school and work, but I need some help. I have to host 50-70 people in San Francisco near our office for interviews. It needs to be nice but not overly pricey- I'm trying to sell them on our company without breaking the bank. Must be in walking distance to Market/Mission and 2nd St. I'm not very familiar with SF or the hotels in the area. Our interviewers prefer SPG/Marriott, but I can be swayed

It was probably the best show I've ever seen. It made you feel the magic! I also loved the ticket process- had to wait up until the early hours, but that's because it was in England.
I ask somewhat selfishly because my dad has a bunch of photographs his dad took during WWII and I don't know what to do with them when they are handed down to me. I don't want to keep them if they serve a greater good (and I'm going to use that term loosely since these are not images that will ever be displayed anywhere.)
These should be donated somewhere! These photographs are unique and probably do have historical value. I don't know if your grandfather or dad are affiliated with any universities, but FSU has a WWII institute with a small archive that would probably be interested (even if no one went to FSU).
As far as stupid stuff people want to donate, it isn't that interesting, just dumb. Like everyone thinks the archives want all their back issues of National Geographic but couldn't possibly be interested in their grandma's diary.
When I was the archivist for a Senator he thought we were just printing and organizing his floor speeches to donate to his alma mater. That shit is already in the public record! Archives want unique, unpublished materials. He though no one could possibly interested in his own papers even though he was a fucking United States Senator!
This was after I'd been working there for two years by the way. He had absolutely no idea what my job was.
This is good info. My two best sources for my thesis on divorce in 1800s western US were two diaries from divorced women. They were fascinating but I bet their kids thought they were boring as hell.
I swear this is my forever house, but let's be honest, I'm the same. This place is pretty zero maintenance for a SFH, so I'm happy. The scary basement is not my favorite, though. I won't go in unless someone else is home with me.
I'm not afraid of it because it's creepy lol. I'm forever terrified of water after our last experience of basement flooding. I didn't want a basement again 😭
Oh, ours is just creepy AF. The house is from 1891 and it's more of a cellar. And so many spider webs
My chief complaint with chip & Joanna is trying to make Waco seem great. Waco sucks and is ridiculous, gtfo. I don't even watch the show but so many people I know were all, "omg I need to move to Waco!" 😒
Hgtv is mindless to me and doesn't make me feel inadequate or want to move. The minute anything remotely annoying happens in my house is what makes me want to move. I wish my h would just listen to me every time we move lol. I want a zero maintenance townhome or something without a basement to be afraid of. YET HERE WE ARE, AGAIN. The longest I've ever lived anywhere in my life is like 3 years, so I'm pretty nomadic and get restless, even though I insist I hate moving.

I'm so jealous! I was scheduled to attend a work event next week but had to cancel for schedule issues. It's held by DoD, and the last event they held had both Dr. Biden and Kellyanne there to speak. I was worried how I'd have to react representing my company if anyone from the current admin showed up. Thankfully, I don't need to worry about it. Still waiting to see who the guest speakers are.
My first thought when I heard they were ending the show was there must be some type of scandal coming up. Joanna has ended successful endeavors previously, though, so it's not surprising for them.
My first thought was concern about their fundamentalist church and HGTV not wanting to associate themselves with anti-gay groups.
This is a pretty good guess. I was thinking some type of lawsuit with the former partners coming up or there's a photo out there with them and someone unlikable like Trump.
