Glad she's out of your house and doing well! Where did you get the info on life expectancy for people with diabetes? My dad has type 2, and a host of other health issues, and this isn't something I had not considered. Just curious.
Thank you to everyone who posted resources here. I just placed a huge Amazon order and will seek out events near me that will expose my family to cultures outside of our own as a starting point. Racism has been a huge topic in my house for the past several months, and I really really appreciate having more resources to continue to work on myself and raise my son as a white ally.
I downloaded The Unbroken Line of the Moon. It's not my usual genre either but looked interesting. Kindle First books are really hit or miss for me, and mostly miss lately, so I don't have high hopes.
Just wait, most hiring managers assume candidates are looking at other jobs, and since you don't have an offer yet it would be premature to bring up another potential opportunity. Plus it doesn't seem like you would accept an offer from the second place? I would also wait on asking for an employee manual until you have, or are much closer to, an offer.
I got hired FT but negotiated down to 30 after 2 months. I had to take a 10,000 pay cut :/ It's really busy so I might have to reconsider, but for now it's a sweet gig.
@invino I am going to be honest, I have only seen it work with either contract recruiting or HRIS management/metrics reporting. I have tried in the past to let staff work reduced hours hours but they have all almost come back to me within 6 months to say it wasn't working because of as you know you can't put "issues'' on hold, or payroll deadlines, insurance issues, key positions to fill, etc........you now the drill. I tried to do 32 hours a week when I first came back from ML but I was consistently on the phone dealing with things or taking meetings. I do try and let staff WAH at least one day a week to get a break from the daily grind of the office. I know there are a lot of other jobs just like this but I just think that HR can be hard to be flexible with which is kind of funny since we suppose to be the champions of work-life balance :-) Or maybe it is my crazy industry that has jaded me.
I'm in HR (generalist) and work 32 hours a week and have since I returned from ML. I do check email several times on my day off, but I honestly can't think of a time something was so urgent I had to change my plans last minute to address it. It might be different if I was the only HR for a company, but there are a ton of HR people here and I don't deal with payroll or benefits much. I also realize I'm very lucky!
Does your employer allow you to work for someone else or yourself while on leave? Mine would not, so that's something to consider as well. Whatever you decide, I hope you get the break you need!
I asked a WWYD question about my moms creepy/racist husband, and limiting contact. I spoke to my mom about it, she ran to him with my concerns, and we haven't seen him since about April - which is 100% fine with me. The only thing that does kind of suck is that it damaged my relationship with my mom further, and I still don't feel I can trust her to stand up for DS, so she hasn't been around much either.
Hugs. I still sometimes feel sad about my miscarriages, especially the first, and my son is 3. I thought about it constantly when I was pregnant, but giving birth was very healing for me, and I hope will be for you too.
I rarely come to this board anymore so I just saw this. I'm so sorry you've been struggling, but am happy you're taking steps to get better! I hope things continue to improve. Sending you good vibes! ❤️
