My grandpa was in this. However, he was one of the ones who had to "work" his way in - he wasn't super rich. He sang in the choir. He enjoyed it, and we visited the San Francisco location a couple years ago for a Christmas party, which was openn to the families and us feeble women. Creepy as fuck. However, I believe it my grandpa was still alive, he would likely be a Trump supporter and it doesn't surprise me.
I completely do not agree. A secured loan is number one a lower interest rate and safer - HELOCs are used for debt consolidation all of the time.
Can I ask what your basis is for this? You'd rather declare BK when you could take care of it with a HELOC? Hell, I've done loans to pay off CCs pulling out the equity in a fully owned car. It's always better to convert to secured.
It's certainly better for the bank, but it won't be better for her. Imagine she uses all of her equity to pay this off, thus increasing her mortgage, and then increases her debt again. Then what?
I'm actually fairly surprised that you're suggesting this as someone who works in banking.
ETA: I swear I refreshed before posting. Ignore me.
I was going to come back in to discuss this, but things changed drastically, lol.
Yes, if the spender never learns their lesson, then absolutely - no HELOC for you. However, typically, we do see this as very beneficial for our members - IF they can control themselves.
I should have qualified myself, just got a little ruffled at the NEVER, lol.
I'm not going to touch this except to say, no, no, no. You absolutely do not use secured debt to pay for unsecured debt. Don't use a HELOC or home equity loan to pay off your credit cards. Worst that can happen to you now is your credit is shit. Worst that can happen to you if you do that is you lose your home AND your credit's shit.

I would definitely consider doing a HELOC (home equity line of credit) before doing a BK. Of course the lawyer is going to say you don't NEED to do that, but then, they want your business. Your credit cards are likely at a much higher percentage than what a HELOC would be (I'm thinking you're at minimum at 9-10%, if not higher. HELOCs where I work start at 4.25%). Depending on where you take it, the term would be from 15 to 25 years, and that would make your payments lower (you would be making one payment instead of however many you have to each individual credit card).
I understand your resistance to putting your home on the line, but honestly, I think you would have a lot more breathing room just by lowering your payment.
In my experience, BK should really be a LAST LAST LAST resort - and you have your home with potentially enough equity to get you out of this bind.
Good luck!
ETA - I work in credit union loans, so if you have any questions, I can try to assist you. Home loans will vary by state, though, so I'm mostly an expert on CA loans.
ETA 2 - and that's what I get for reading the whole thing and replying before there were any other replies. I do think you're shifting blame and need to take ownership. Trust me, I'm very sympathetic, since I was in a similar situation but you really gotta buckle down and face the music.

I think you can also get it on Scribd. I signed up for the free trial, downloaded the guide and then promptly cancelled to make sure I don't get charged.

I highly recommend Alliant Credit Union for RV financing - I used to work there and did them all the time. They are based out of Chicago, IL (they're United's credit union), but they go nationally as well. For RVs, they have a niche market in that they finance full timers as well.

Thank you everyone for the info.
Apparently, I misunderstood the conversation with my h. I'm ready, he's not and may never be. I don't know how I'm feeling.
I mean, I can't blame him. Up until a week ago, I was gung ho no babies ever. We spent a long weekend with some adorable babies and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, so maybe that's where this is coming from?
I don't know. I don't feel like this is a deal breaker, but it's certainly a huge disappointment. And he's trying to be so considerate and kind about it, and he feels like shit too, and I don't know.

So, my h and I are starting to think about maybe having a baby. We're 33, been married going on six years, and my clock just activated, lol. There are a few cons (my h is bipolar, we have some debt) but we figure we're never going to be fully ready. We have decided we're not trying, but we're not NOT trying, ya dig?
My question is: how/where do we start? Should we go see a doctor? For bipolar, how hereditary is it? Do I start tracking my period more regularly? Where did everyone else start?
Sounds interesting. I signed up for the free trial and will let you know. I like that it will supposedly tackle the emotional reasons I eat and triggers, etc
My birthday is Monday and Valentine's day Tuesday so come Wednesday I'm signing up for something! How long is the free trial? I missed that.
14 days. I will probably sign up for the whole thing, we'll see, lol.

I seriously think my body has an intense reaction to big trump days. Day after the election my allergies kicked my ass so bad I had trouble keeping my eyes open they were so itchy/watery. Today, same fucking thing. And I don't get terrible allergies.

I thought the final scene when they completed all of the movements was just beautiful and powerful. It wasn't even about trying to stop the shooter (which I think a lot of people didn't get), but them coming together and believing. I really enjoyed this show. Brit Marling is very talented - I highly recommend her movie Another Earth for those who haven't seen it. She has an unusual creative mind.

Not a hit and run, but she wasn't crossing in a crosswalk (they live in the middle of fucking nowhere, but right off a freeway offramp) and the cop on site said that she might be at fault. I don't see how a pedestrian is ever at fault, but this is coming from the cop.

Hi guys,
I know I don't post very regularly here, but I wanted to put this out wherever I can.
My H's best friend's fiancee was hit by a car earlier this week and is extremely hurt. She had just started a new job, and does not currently have insurance - won't be covered under BFF until they are married, which they were shooting for September of next year. They have a 3 year old and a 6 month old baby that she is still nursing, and this has been devastating. He works full time, but they do not have the funds to cover all of the medical expenses or lost income in the time that it will take her to recover.
I'm not asking for donations (but if you're so inclined, it's greatly appreciated), as I know the history of that here. But if any of you don't mind sharing the link to help spread the word, that would be great. These are the nicest people in the world and have already gone through so much, and this is just the fucking worst thing that could happen to them right now.
I know this may seem sketch coming from a non regular, but I have some of y'all on my FB and IG, and have posted there as well, so I hope that helps verify.
