Both kids are home sick with suspected ear infections. My man cold has progressed into full on sickness. Ugh. I just want to bag work the rest of the afternoon and take a nap.
My bad hair color is now fixed and I have a new stylist only two blocks from my house. She fixed the cut too. I told her she didn't have to it but she insisted that "I wasn't leaving here like that". I'm at least back to a color that doesn't clash with my skin tone.
DS1 started first grade Tuesday. DS2 started PK4 today. DS2 gets to walk in with DS1 now and DS1 gets to collect him after school and bring him out the "big kid" exit. He's so excited for this new responsibility.
If you can see your house from the stop, I'm assuming you can see your stop from the house. I'd wait at the house until the last minute (or until you can see the bus) then sprint to the bus stop. A last minute "OMG, I'm so sorry!" is no big deal if it's not habitual. He'll be barely waking up, if at all waking up, by the time you're back. He's 2. He'll be fine. If he was an infant, I'd be saying something else entirely, because reasons. But at toddlerhood, I'm fairly breezy as long as he's in a safe room and not playing with matches near a gas stove.
This is how I'd do it too. DS2 is my escape artist. He's flat out just up and walked out of the house by himself (he's 4) - once we were all just boring him and he wanted to be outside. I left him sleeping twice this week to run DS1 to school. He was still sleeping when I got back.
If I could see my house from the bus stop I'd feel like been less queasy about it but regardless, I'd still take the chance.
We were driving to dinner a few week's ago and we pass a Pep Boys sign. H turns to DS2 (who goes by Jack) and asks him the names of the Pep Boys. Jack makes up some nonsense (he's 4) and H lets it stand. So thinking H asked DS2 their names because one is named "Jack" I say "well, those aren't their names". To which H responds "They have real names?" I thought he was pulling my leg.
Not sure if that's H being four years younger, a regional thing or just randomness.
I cheated on my hair stylist this weekend and the hair gods are angry. I have been punished and now I don't trust the person who did it to fix it and I'm too ashamed to go to my regular stylist. Luckily a friend is fixing it for me but now I'm probably going to feel obligated to see her from now own.
But seriously, I have highlights circa 1998. I look like a cheap version of Ginger Spice.
Ha ha ha. Yeah, I have no problems with calling this out given the context. Use another picture or stop being so nationalistic. There were other choices that could have been made with either the message or the picture.
Jimmy's long had an asshole rep. I can't recall the details of why. Maybe dating back to his college coaching days? Must be as my dad hated him and he doesn't watch NFL.
One thing my DH learned from Sandy was that in addition to having cash on hand in case ATMs don't work, also try to get the cash changed over to smaller bills. So many places around us were unable to get smaller bills to give change to customers. We have a stack of $5's and $10's in the safe for emergencies.
I can't remember the most recent thing but a few years ago DS1 asked H a question about Luke Skywalker. H said "I'm sorry, I don't know Star Trek, you'll have to ask Mommy". 😬
I also recently realized he doesn't know the difference between wet and dry ingredient measurements. Not very exciting.
I read about this last night and was all "Okay, avoid L'Oréal, easy" and then I saw the full list of brands and yeah...that's a lot of stuff I use. Damn it. Oh well. I'll mostly just miss Essie.
We had our DeploraBOWL draft last night and it was so much fun. My sleeper pick is Elaine Chao.
And I realized what I want to do for my next career move last night and talked it through with a slightly drunk DH (he'd been sent to a bar while we did the draft/drank wine). This morning he sent me an email telling me to go for it.
Yes, mostly Shaun King and I think DeRay McKesson talked about it on PSTP. I saw him tweet about a follow-up with Terry McAuliffe who apparently was clueless when DeRay mentioned it during an interview.
I'm solidly Gen X and rarely answer my door. Our doorbell died a few years ago. We never replaced it because the dog went nuts and woke the kids. Now I'm just accustomed to not having one and I WFH (sans bra) so it's always just annoying salespeople or JHW trying to convert me (once a year I tell them I'm an atheist and they stop coming by for awhile).
We thought about getting Ring but need to get on that and an entire new front door so I've been dragging my feet.
I don't think I'm ignoring my neighbors but we also live in a neighborhood with businesses so if locked out they could easily go to the restaurant across the street to use their phone.
I'm so bummed. I read about the Little Lobbyist thing just after my mom took my kids to Bethesda. One of the drop off points is Silver Spring. I'm going through to see what NG and G tube supplies I have extra and unexpired.
The logistics of all of this is daunting. And it's made me think about what a real disaster preparedness plan means for my family and my mother-in-law (lives in a condo in a low lying area and has some medical needs which require constant medical supplies).
It's cool and rainy here today and I want to eat all the things. And take a nap. I stopped into a shop a lunch and had to walk out before I bought a bunch of sweaters.
I thought this sounded like a good idea until I read the dates. That's an awfully long march to put together so quickly. And if they left our local coordinators, I doubt it'll be successful.
At the same time I also thought - glad I don't have any plans for next Sunday/Monday. Let me call the BFF and we can go march those two days. So...IDK. I want it to be successful but I'm skeptical.
Wow - when you see it all laid out like this, he is so unstable
Politico
RUMP'S SUNDAY MORNING -- @realdonald Trump at 8:25 a.m.: "Many people are now saying that this is the worst storm/hurricane they have ever seen. Good news is that we have great talent on the ground." ... at 8:04 a.m.: "Great coordination between agencies at all levels of government. Continuing rains and flash floods are being dealt with. Thousands rescued." ... at 9:15 a.m.: "I will also be going to a wonderful state, Missouri, that I won by a lot in '16. Dem C.M. is opposed to big tax cuts. Republican will win S!" ...
... at 9:25 a.m.: "Wow - Now experts are calling #Harvey a once in 500 year flood! We have an all out effort going, and going well!" ... at 9:44 a.m. : "With Mexico being one of the highest crime Nations in the world, we must have THE WALL. Mexico will pay for it through reimbursement/other." ... at 10:31 a.m.: "Going to a Cabinet Meeting (tele-conference) at 11:00 A.M. on #Harvey. Even experts have said they've never seen one like this!" ... at 10:39 a.m.: "Major rescue operations underway!"
This is just all so sick. Seeing it laid out like that really brings home how off the tone is. He should be somber and serious. He sounds like a moron. Which is nothing new but dude the lives of actual people are on the line here.
And then HRC's tweet just nails how it should be done - starkly highlighting his many deficits.
Happy birthday @seeyalater. I loved my 30's. So far not loving the 40's so much.
Having a lazy morning, need to get a bunch of small projects done around the house. The weather is finally nice so I should power through the projects so I can enjoy the low heat/humidity for awhile
I'm having a hard time following what is happening right now. It seems like he is doing all kinds of shit that his base loves--DACA, Arpaio, etc. So why are the White Nationalist/Breitbart people resigning all of a sudden?
I think it's some BS sight of hand nonsense. Oh, all the worst are leaving, Kelly is right the ship. Don't mind them literally slipping in the backdoor / calling 45* all the time.
I want them all gone. Like from this plane of existence. And, while an atheist, I'm a cultural catholic and a tiny piece of me hopes there is a heaven and hell and these fuckers have to pay up for every last sin.
In 2010, Trump again found himself in trouble in Atlantic City. But this time Icahn was his antagonist. Along with a Texas banker, Icahn was trying to gain control of three Trump casinos. When a lawyer asked, during a deposition, whether Icahn intended to rebrand the casinos, he said that a consultant had deemed the Trump name a “disadvantage.” In an interview, Trump shot back, “Everybody wants the brand, including Carl. It’s the hottest brand in the country.” But in Icahn’s opinion the only real downside to shedding the Trump name was the expense that would be associated with changing all the signage. Trump expressed dismay at Icahn’s slight, telling the Times, in 2011, that he was a “loyalist” who prioritized friendship, whereas “with Carl the friendship stops where the deal begins.” (Icahn responded that he did not consider the two of them to be close, adding, pointedly, that he had not been invited to Ivanka Trump’s wedding.) In court papers, Icahn’s lawyers suggested that Trump’s name was no longer “synonymous with business acumen, high quality, and style.” Icahn told the Wall Street Journal, “I like Donald personally, but frankly I’m a little curious about the big deal about the name.” If the Trump brand carried such cachet, he asked, why did Trump properties keep going bankrupt?
So, assuming the portapotties are for SS agents covering him, whytf can't they use the regular ones in the actual buildings? I need to see where these things are relative to the SS's trailers or whatever they use for offices and staging, and where they are relative to the Bedminster buildings. Because I cannot imagine the bathrooms inside are less secure than portapotties. I still find the golf cart rental $$ more infuriating because really, the family should be responsible for SS oop expenses specific to a personal trip to his home, which is what Trump refers to these places as. Sheesh. All I see is profiteering.
My knowledge of this coming from TWW but they "don't discuss operational details" or some such quote. I also am guessing they have their mobile unit somewhere on property but not actually up front and center so hauling ass in and out of the cc would be a hike. Just my guess.
As to why the potties have to be so special it could be either that the CC has restrictions on what PPs are permitted or it could be a setup where these are multi-units with a hand washing station and that just costs more.
As far as admin expenses going this isn't terribly egregious IMO. Him flitting off all the time, his wife and kid not living with him is more the issue for me. That - and the adult kids - is the true cost driver.
Also, I was really hoping this was going to be about his personal gofer carrying around a golden toilet seat in an attaché case so 45*'s ass never touches regular toilet seats.
